Around Woodcroft

There are local shops and excellent dining pubs within ½ mile and there is a steam railway 1 mile away in the village of Stanhope. The perfect holiday cottage for both couples & families whether you want to relax & unwind, go walking, cycling or touring the area.

County Durham is one of England’s most northerly counties with a rich and varied heritage and some of the most impressive scenery can be seen in the Durham Dales. Our self catering holiday cottage is located in Weardale one of the Northern Durham Dales. We are part of the North Pennines A.O.N.B. The scenery is superb, whichever season you choose to visit. There are many well mapped walks of varying length and difficulty starting from the door of the cottage or within a short drive.

The area is known for its dark starlit skies. And with low light pollution, here at Woodcroft Farm, on a clear night you will have a great view of the milky way.

FISHING

There are also fishing opportunities in the area, we have our own stretch of private fishing on the river Wear which is available to our visitors. The river fishing season runs from 21st March each year until 30th October. A licence is required and can be arranged. There are several good, well stocked reservoirs within a 20 minute drive, details can be provided.
